El programa DNA-Prokids, impulsado por la Universidad de Granada (UGR) para la lucha contra el tráfico de seres humanos, en especial de menores de edad, será propuesto para el premio Príncipe de Asturias. El rector de la Universidad de Granada, Francisco González Lodeiro, ha recibido esta propuesta de parte del embajador de España en Honduras, uno de los países de actuación de este proyecto internacional.

Evitar adopciones ilegales, lograr que los niños de la calle recuperen a sus familias, acabar con la prostitución de menores. Estos son algunos de los objetivos del programa DNA-Prokids, liderado por el Laboratorio de Identificación Genética de la Universidad de Granada, que lleva el investigador granadino José Antonio Lorente.

El proyecto consiste en organizar una base de batos mundial en la que queden registrados los datos genéticos de personas susceptibles de haber sido víctimas de tráfico y de los familiares que los buscan.

Ya se ha extendido a casi una veintena de países y ha permitido reagrupar a unas 700 familias. En 2004, el Laboratorio de Identificación Genética, del Departamenteo de Medicina Legal planteó la posibilidad de crear este proyecto con el fin de realizar los estudios no sólo dentro de los propios países, a fin de combatir el tráfico local y nacional, si no extenderlos posteriormente a todo el mundo para luchar contra el comercio internacional de seres humanos.

En el consejo de gobierno de la Universidad de Granada celebrado ayer, el rector explicó durante la lectura de su habitual informe que ha recibido la propuesta del embajador de España en Honduras para promover la candidatura de este proyecto internacional de la UGR para el prestigioso galardón. Esta comunicación pretendía recabar el apoyo y la implicación de la propia Universidad granadina en la propuesta para el premio.

Con este programa no sólo se dificulta el comercio de seres humanos y se reunifican familias, sino que la policía puede obtener interesantes datos sobre las rutas y los medios utilizados en este delito. Tres razones por la que numerosos países ya han contactado con DNA-Prokids (Brasil, China, Colombia, México, Filipinas, Indonesia, Tailandia, etcétera). Se pretende que España se convierta en el coordinador mundial de esta base de datos, para que en todos los países se siga un mismo protocolo.
